The Association of Maltese Sign Language Interpreters (AILSM) was registered as a voluntary organisation in the year 2020. 

The principal aim of AILSM is to advance the profession of sign language interpreting in Malta. 

The objectives of AILSM are to: 

• Promote professional standards.

• Be a support network for sign language interpreters Share information and be a reference on interpreting issues 

• Support the work of sign language interpreters working at national/public events such as conferences, political events, other gatherings and media. 

• Work in partnership with Deaf and Deafblind Associations on sign language interpreting issues 

• Liaise with spoken language interpreter organisations and other organisations having common interests 

• Safeguard the code of ethics as specified by the association. 

• Create public awareness regarding Sign Language Interpreting. 

• Maintain international communications. 

• Encourage opportunities for continuous professional development. 

• Take any appropriate measure to fulfill the above aims. 

The association is a non-profit making organization and any funds raised are used solely to upkeep the above aims.
